Varsity Basketball Sinks Decisive Win against Westminster

SIMSBURY, Conn. – February 20, 2024 – On Tuesday, Varsity Basketball headed south on I-91 to face the Westminster Martlets on their home court. While Westminster has had a challenging season, the Eagles were wary of a recent improvement in their record and came ready to play.

The Martlets set the pace of play early and scored on four of their first five possessions. The Eagles, by contrast, had bad luck on early breakaways and failed to find the net with their early shots.

The game began to break their way at the eight-minute mark as Eaglebrook generated four consecutive turnovers, scoring easy transition baskets that prompted a Westminster timeout. The Martlets regrouped and stayed close for several minutes, but the Eagles soared again, scoring on three straight possessions to close the half with a commanding 33-18 lead.

After the half, the Eagles took control of the game on the defensive end and quickly inflated their lead to 20 points.  This cushion allowed the Eaglebrook bench to give the starters a rest, and everyone contributed significantly to the team’s 19th victory of the season.

Up next is a road game against The Fay School in Southborough on Friday.
