JV Hockey Hangs Tough against Pope Francis Prep

DEERFIELD, Mass. – February 20, 2024 – On Tuesday, JV Hockey hosted the JV squad from Pope Francis Prep in Springfield and hung tough against a team of older skaters that subjected them to a lopsided loss earlier in the season.

The Eagles knew they had their work cut out for them, and they played defensively to contain their opponent early in the game. But their tentative play allowed Pope Francis to score two early goals.

As the game evolved, JV Hockey gained confidence, and their skill and speed showed up on the ice. The Eagles scored in the second period and had multiple shots on goal, but they were stymied by great netminding from the Pope Francis goalie.

Ultimately, the strength and speed of the older opponent proved formidable, and the visitors added an empty-net goal to punctuate their 3-1 win.

The Eagles will play their final game of the season at home on Wednesday night against the Connecticut Chiefs’ under-13 squad.
