On Tuesday afternoon the Varsity team hosted the team from Pomfret Connecticut, the Rectory School. The Eagles have been looking forward to this matchup since the conclusion of last season, having lost two close contests by a total of 4 points. The opening moments were tense, as Rectory hit the first shot of the game, and Eaglebrook, despite getting multiple stops on the defensive end, just couldn't buy a bucket. Finally, Eaglebrook scored, and with one basket the entire flow of the game changed. Eaglebrook pushed the pace on both sides of the ball and finished the first quarter up 18-5. Determined to keep the momentum, the Eagles locked in on the defensive end of the court, causing turning and forcing quick offensive possessions on their counterparts. By halftime, the outcome had been determined, as Eaglebrook led 39-9. Unwilling to give up, Rectory continued to battle throughout the second half, but solid play on both ends of the court helped the kids from Eaglebrook maintain their advantage in a 67-33 victory. Heading into our winter recess, Eaglebrook sits at 6-0 and is looking forward to a trip up to Exeter NH for games against the Lawrence Boys Club and Phillips Exeter on the 5th and 6th of January.
