Varsity hockey vs. Westminster Martlets

On Friday the Eagles traveled to Simsbury, CT to take on the Westminster Martlets.  The Eagles came out with great energy and took the momentum, scoring in the opening minute off of an offensive zone faceoff.  The momentum began to shift back to the Martlets as they fed off of their fans' energy.  Westminster would find the back of the net on their second powerplay.  The Eagles fought back and found the back of the net again, this time after their forecheck created a turnover at the top of the right circle and the puck was buried with little hesitation.  The second period saw many great attempts from both teams with strong goaltending on both sides, the Martlets would score to tie the game on a deflected point shot.  As the physical play ramped up the game got a bit sloppy in the third period.  Both teams had moments of sustained offensive zone time with the Martlets burying a rebound late in the period.  The Eagles created two great opportunities where the puck was loose in the crease as the officials lost sight of it, and even with their goalie pulled they managed two impressive looks but the Martlets goalie was up to the task.  It was a hard-fought loss but the Eagles look to get back to their winning ways tomorrow night vs the 95 Giants in their home opener.
