Why would you send a sixth-grade boy to boarding school? Shouldn't a ninth-grade student start high school? What is a junior boarding school? Make an appointment to visit us today and learn why Eaglebrook, a boarding and day school for boys in middle school, might be the right place for your son.
Eaglebrook School was founded in 1922 by Howard Gibbs as a private boarding and day school for boys in middle school. Learn about our school in Deerfield, Massachusetts then and now, and read about the Core Skills we think every boy should know.
At Eaglebrook, we recognize that all students learn in different ways, vary in their innate abilities, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Classes at Eaglebrook are organized to meet the needs of each boy.
Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. Activities outside of the academic classroom are important to the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of boys in middle school. At Eaglebrook, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Delivering on our mission is only possible through the incredible generosity of alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends.”
Eaglebrook welcomed Cardigan Mountain on January 10 to kick things off in 2018. From the opening puck drop, both teams were eager to set the tone, which resulted in an elevated pace of play. The Eagles and Cougars displayed exciting end-to-end action, as both teams traded offensive chances. Throughout the game, the Eagles defensive unit showed great composure, transitioning pucks through the neutral zone, which led to solid offensive zone time. The Eagles had a couple of chances on the man advantage and got some quality looks, but couldn’t bury anything early on. Despite the strong play, the score remained 0-0 after the first 15 minutes. Both teams replicated the same intensity in the second period as physical play increased. However, midway through the second, the Eagles found themselves on the power play again and knew they needed to capitalize in this tightly played game. As the Eagles set up in the offensive zone, Kaz Sobieski initiated a great tic-tac-toe goal, finding Hans Forselius in the low corner, who sent a timely cross-crease feed to Jacob Trowt. Trowt was able to quickly re-direct the pass by the sprawling goaltender to put the Eagles on the board. The score remained 1-0 heading into the second intermission and prove to be the eventual game-winner. Eaglebrook knew the Cougars would give them all they could handle in the third frame, but the boys didn’t back down. Defensively, Seamus Cummings, Bauer Swift, Giovanni Grassi, Pierce Patterson, and Kaz Sobieski all did a great job of retrieving pucks, while withstanding an aggressive forecheck throughout the game, especially in the third period. Coupled with outstanding goaltender play by Kekua Katz, making some clutch saves down the stretch, the boys were able to secure the victory. Mac Elliott, Ben Scully, Benito Calvanese, Jordan Nelson, Michael Penna, Nils Forselius, Simba Chen, and Ryan Robbins all helped contribute with solid forechecking across the board as well. It was a great team win, as the boys showed tremendous resiliency and grit against a strong opponent. They will look to build on this performance, as they welcome the Gulf Coast Flames this weekend for a double-header on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
