Varsity Baseball v. Northfield Mt. Hermon

Eaglebrook gets more hits, but not more runs in 12-7 loss to NMH

Eaglebrook won the hit battle 10-7 on Saturday, but couldn't push enough runs across to get the win. 7 defensive errors ultimately led to a 12-7 loss in seven innings to an experienced NMH team.

Zach Mooney was solid at the plate for Eaglebrook. Zach went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. He tripled in the fourth inning, and scored on a suicide squeeze bunt laid down flawlessly by Dom Cormier.

Will Jordan pitched the game's first three innings, walking none, striking out two, and allowing one run. In 7 total innings pitched this season he has an ERA of 1.00 and strike percentage of .752.

NMH took a major lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring seven runs on a buildup of walks, errors, and a pair of timely hits.
An exciting four-run fifth inning helped bring Eaglebrook within three. A single by Jacob Mehl, a single by Payten Doherty, a sacrifice bunt by Matt Dulmaine, a single by Sam Born, two consecutive passed balls, a single by Zach Mooney, a passed ball, and a sacrifice by Dom Cormier lead to the comeback.
One more run in the top of the sixth helped Eaglebrook close their deficit to 8-6. A leadoff walk by Greg Sohmer, a single by Jack Denhart, and a sacrifice groundout by Jake Presnal sparked Eaglebrook's rally.

Despite Eaglebrook's best efforts battling back, NMH answered with four quick runs of their own in the sixth, again capitalizing on walks and errors.
After loading the bases in the top of the seventh, Eaglebrook pushed one more run across, but it wasn't enough, as Eaglebrook took its first loss of the season, 12-7.
All in all, it was an exciting game full of important learning opportunities for Eaglebrook's young Varsity team. We will play again away at Turners Fall on Wednesday, and home against Westminster this Saturday.
