Gathering Together: Community and Connection in the First Week

The first week of school at Eaglebrook is a special time filled with traditions, student bonding, and the excitement of a new academic year. A sunset dinner on Mount Pocumtuck offered the Sixth Form a warm welcome back to shared meals and community life at Eaglebrook. Our Sixth Form students then stepped into their leadership roles with the traditional Morse Hill Outdoor Education Center experience, where they participated in team-building and leadership development activities that strengthened trust and connections. That evening, they hosted the New Student Cookout, an evening of campfires, cookouts, and conversations designed to welcome the newest members of our boarding school community.

On campus, families came together as both returning and new students settled into dorm life, met advisors, and began shaping their academic journey. Last Sunday, the community gathered at the Easton Ski Area for a gorgeous sunset First Sunday Meeting, a meaningful tradition that sets the tone for the year ahead at Eaglebrook. The evening opened with remarks from Mr. Mark Mariani, who spoke about the importance of “listening with an open heart”, followed by Student Council President Ryan K. ’26, who read Psalm 121. Mr. Chase shared two stories, explained our motto, and offered some wise advice. He also encouraged students to embrace both opportunities and responsibilities in the months ahead.

As the school year takes shape, traditions continue. Monday was picture day, capturing the first official portraits of the year. Fall Athletics begins today with Eaglebrook’s first home Varsity soccer match of the season at Memorial Field. The first few days of school celebrate the community spirit, leadership, and vitality that make Eaglebrook such a special place.
