Eaglebrook School was founded in 1922 by Howard Gibbs as a private boarding and day school for boys in middle school. Learn about our school in Deerfield, Massachusetts then and now, and read about the Core Skills we think every boy should know.
At Eaglebrook, we recognize that all students learn in different ways, vary in their innate abilities, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Classes at Eaglebrook are organized to meet the needs of each boy.
Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. Activities outside of the academic classroom are important to the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of boys in middle school. At Eaglebrook, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Delivering on our mission is only possible through the incredible generosity of alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends.”
I remember meeting Edgar many years ago when he was a student, in about the 8th grade, at Eaglebrook, at a dance they had, there. I remember Edgar to be very polite and a very nice dancer, though a bit shorter than I. I asked my brother if he knew Edgar. His response was, "Just a spoiled rich kid." That kind of response from my brother was totally uncalled for. In fact, Phelps turned out to be such a failure at everything my parents had to buy him out of Eaglebrook, then, Taft. He could never hold a job, so our father sent him to a college to get his masters in "Financial management". From there, he got fired from the 3 bank jobs he got, after marrying his wife. It's a long, horrible story, from there on. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how wonderful to have met Edgar so many years ago. May he rest in peace. A wonderful man.
