  • Eaglebrook Skiing MISL Championships

On Feburary 20th the Eaglebrook Ski Team finished their prep school ski league race series. The last race, a GS hosted by Eaglebrook, determined the winner of the league. The league was very competitive this year and despite having 3 top ten finishers (Jack Stobierski ’08 first, Kevin Dachos ’08 second, and Patrick Joyce ’09 tenth) in the race, Deerfield Academy won the race and clinched the league. Eaglebrook finished in second for the season, missing first place by only two points. The team also enjoyed several individual honors this season with skiers Jack Stobierski and Kevin Dachos finishing second and third respectively for the season. The JV team also enjoyed success this winter as they earned third place in the league’s JV division. While the league’s season is over, many members of the team have turned their focus to the J 3 and 4 USSA championships to be held this weekend.

Eaglebrook Skiers Take Top Honor at NEPSAC

Battling adverse weather conditions, Eaglebrook’s top ski racers traveled to Bromley Mountain near Peru, Vermont to compete in the Division A New England Prep School Alpine Ski Race Championships on Thursday, February 14th. Competing for Eaglebrook was: Sam Macomber ’08, Jack Stobierski ’08, Kevin Dachos ’08, Patrick Joyce ’09, Peter Stobierski ’10, and Ryan Mooney ’11. There for moral support was tri-captain Aaron Cyr-Mutty ’08 and skier Paul Kapinos ’08. Luckily the weather cleared for the race, because competition was fierce. The Eaglebrook skiers responded with maturity to the situation and stayed focused. The championship was a combined event with Slalom in the morning and Giant Slalom in the afternoon. Despite being younger and not as expierenced, Eaglebrook took first place in the Slalom and second place in the Giant Slalom. These two finishes combined allowed the team to enjoy its first ever title of New England Champions, beating many secondary schools to win this honor. Congratulations to the Eaglebrook Ski Team.

  • Competitive Skiing at MISL

On Wednesday January 9th, the first day back from winter break, the competitive ski team loaded the bus and set out for the first Mount Institute Ski League (MISL) race. Despite not having a day of practice since they left in December, spirits were high and excitement filled the bus. It was possible that the race would be cancelled due to rain earlier in the day, but the race was held on time. Battling tough course and snow conditions, each athlete competed to the best of their ability and as a team they enjoyed great success. On the Varsity course the top finisher for the day was Jack Stobierski ’08, followed by four other Brookies: Patrick Joyce ’09, Ryan Mooney ’11, Kevin Dachos ’08, and Sam Macomber ’08 in the top 16. These top performances led the Eaglebrook team to victory over their older and more experienced opponents. Similar success was enjoyed on the J.V. course where the team had a respectable showing earning third place with three athletes finishing in the top ten, 2nd Christian Paton ’10, 3rd C.K. Kim ’10 and 10th Morgan LaPointe ’08. This promising start has both the coaches and athletes excited and hungry for future success.
