The Eaglebrook Junior Varsity Hockey team officially opened their season on Tuesday night hosting Franklin County Youth Hockey. The Bantam A team from FCHA has been the season opener for the last few years and it is historically a fun game. This year followed suit with a 3-2 overtime thriller that went in favor of the Eagles. The home team started out with some first-game jitters and despite the high level of effort, everything seemed a bit disjointed in the first period. As we moved into the second period things began to click and the Eaglebrook squad was able to establish a strong offensive zone presence that led to goals by Walker S. '25. As the second period concluded the momentum was clearly in the favor of Eaglebrook and coach Williams stressed the importance of not "letting off the gas". Unfortunately, the team did not heed this message and took several penalties which allowed the FCHA squad to bury 2 goals and get back into the game. To the credit of the JV team, they responded well to this adversity and raised their level of intensity for the remainder of the 3rd period. The home team pelted the FCHA goalie, who stood on his head to keep the game tied at 2 at the end of regulation. The game headed to a 3 v 3 sudden death overtime and the Eaglebrook squad was feeling confident because they practiced this in a prior practice. During the second shift of the overtime, Eagles defenseman Drew D. '25 made a great play to break up 2 v 1 and quickly moved the puck to Brady C. '25 who advanced the puck into the left side of the offensive zone and blasted a snap shot off the far post and in to win in thrilling fashion. The game was far from perfect, but there is much to be excited about and they look forward to building off of this game against the Pope Francis JV team on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the Alfond Arena.
