On Friday, January 8, the Eaglebrook Varsity B Hockey team dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to a talented and disciplined Belmont Hill squad. Eaglebrook dominated play early but was not fortunate to cash in on their opportunities. Belmont Hill struck first when a bad deflection in the defensive zone landed right on the opposing players stick in front of the net. Eaglebrook conceded a second goal early in the second period. The Brookies came storming back, however. Their hard work paid off when Gus Walsh fed a beautiful pass to a streaking Brendan O'Connell who converted an easy tap in to bring the game to a one-goal margin. Eaglebrook evened the game when Chuck Goldstein fed linemate Hamilton Drucker across the crease less than a minute later. With seemingly all the momentum, Eaglebrook looked strong heading into the final period. However, Belmont Hill scored again early in the frame to pull ahead. Rodrigo Fonseca's hard forecheck earned him a breakaway, which he converted with a beautiful top-shelf shot to tie the game 3-3. Unfortunately, Belmont Hill converted a late opportunity to earn the win. It was a hard-fought game and Eaglebrook looks to bounce back when they take on the Berkshire Bruins on Saturday.
