Thirds Basketball v. Bement

Nearly erasing a deficit as large as 12 points in the second half, Thirds Basketball fell short by a deuce in a 34-32 final against Bement at home on Wednesday afternoon.

What could have been a relatively easy victory against a much smaller Bement lineup turned into an uphill battle from the get-go for the home hosts as they misfired on all six of their first shot attempts to fall behind 0-6. Even though the offense eventually found its range, the Brookies never seemed comfortable throughout the game as the defense would falter every time the offense managed to close the gap.

Failure to secure the ball also cost Eaglebrook dearly as the home squad lost the battle on loose balls and turnovers to dig themselves into a hole that was too deep to overcome. Even with the clock winding down and the visitors clearly intimidated, the comeback attempt that started midway through the second half was not enough to force the game into overtime as the potential game-tying shot bounced off the rim to end the contest.
