Getting to Know Eaglebrook: Meet Our New Faculty
There are always new faces around Eaglebrook, and this year, six new faculty members are joining the community: David Chatson, Nellie Ellinwood, Christina Bowers, Shinhye Kim, Griffin Budde, and Nick Hull.
They come to Eaglebrook with backgrounds in art, music, mathematics, English, Latin, athletics, and boarding school education, as well as many interests outside the classroom. Here’s a little more about the people who will be teaching, coaching, advising, and getting to know Eaglebrook’s students.
David Chatson
David Chatson brings together his interests in art, education, and athletics. A visual artist and educator, he has taught at studios throughout the Boston area and in summer programs at Loomis Chaffee and Taft. At Eaglebrook, he’ll teach and coach, including coaching squash and water polo, two sports he played in high school and college. He’ll also advise in Eagle’s Nest.
Away from the classroom, David spends time at the potter’s wheel, listens to music from the ’60s and ’70s, and enjoys fishing.
David Chatson
David Chatson brings together his interests in art, education, and athletics. Nellie Ellinwood
Nellie Ellinwood already knows a little about life on the Hill, having joined Eaglebrook for the 2026 Summer Semester. A graduate of St. Paul’s School, Nellie has worked in boarding schools since graduating from college in 2022 and was drawn to Eaglebrook’s residential community and the opportunity to live and learn alongside students and teachers.
Outside of school, Nellie enjoys world cinema, literature, and writing poetry.
Christina Bowers
Christina Bowers joins the English Department with more than 16 years of experience as an educator, most of it at the public middle school level. Originally from the Chicago area, Christina recently moved from Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and brings a strong allegiance to the Bears, Blackhawks, and Cubs. The Bulls, however, are another story, even though she grew up in Chicago during the Michael Jordan era.
Christina and her husband, Chris, have two children, including Joe, who is an Eaglebrook student. When she’s not teaching, she enjoys reading, puzzling, and spending time outdoors.
Shinhye Kim
Music has been at the center of Shinhye Kim’s work for years. Originally from South Korea, Shinhye earned both her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance from the University of Texas at Austin and has spent years teaching music. At Eaglebrook, she is especially interested in helping students build confidence and creativity through music.
Shinhye lives in Amherst with her husband, Simon, and their three children, and looks forward to becoming part of the Eaglebrook community.
Griffin Budde
For Griffin Budde, an interest in the ancient world has shaped much of his teaching. His classroom experience began in graduate school, when he led discussions of ancient Greek history for undergraduates. Since then, he has taught Latin at the college, high school, and middle school levels.
Griffin sees middle school as a particularly good time to begin studying Latin, which he enjoys for the way it connects language, grammar, literature, and ancient history. He earned his B.A. and Ph.D. from Boston University, where his dissertation focused on the reception of repeated phrases in Homer’s Iliad.
Griffin lives in Halsted House with his partner, Anna. Outside of school, they enjoy listening to the Red Sox on the radio, hiking nearby trails, and getting to know the wildlife around campus.
We’re glad to have them here and look forward to seeing all they bring to the community.

Nick Hull
Nick Hull joins the Mathematics Department after teaching math at Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh, where he taught Algebra 1. He earned both his B.S. and M.Ed. in Mathematics Education from The Ohio State University and previously served in the United States Marine Corps.

Nick also has experience coaching cross country and track and field and looks forward to contributing to Eaglebrook’s running teams. When he’s not at school, you’ll likely find him hiking, birdwatching, visiting national parks, or checking out a new baseball stadium.
Each of Eaglebrook’s newest faculty members brings a different set of experiences, interests, and perspectives to the Hill. They’ll be teaching, coaching teams, advising students, and becoming part of the many day-to-day relationships that make up life at Eaglebrook.
