Varsity Basketball at Belmont Hill Invitational

This weekend the Varsity Basketball team traveled to Belmont Hill over the weekend to participate in a 4-team tournament. In our first game we played St. Sebastian's School. The game was very close the entire time with neither team able to hold a lead for very long. Eaglebrook was able to keep pace with the Arrow's during the second half despite loosing point guard Nick Seretta to foul trouble two minutes into the half. Trailing by four points with 6 minutes left, the Eagles rallied to take a lead on baskets by Chris Hohlstein, Allen Chen, and Rodney Miller. St. Sebastian's was finally able to take the lead back with a minute left in the game, and clutch free throwing shooting sealed their victory, 34-29.

In the second game of the afternoon the Brookies took on St. John's Prep. Again the two teams were very evenly matched, and neither team was able to hold onto a lead for very long. Eaglebrook came roaring out of the gates in the first half, establishing a presence on both ends of the floor, and at one point had an eight-point lead. By halftime the Johnnies had cut the deficit to 4, while the Eagles were starting to feel the effects of playing back-to-back games. Despite shots not falling Eaglebrook was able to keep control of the game throughout the second half, mainly through their defensive determination. Rodney Miller anchored the squad in the middle and finished the afternoon with at least 8 blocked shots, and countless altered ones. Hilton Chao also made his presence felt on the boards, grabbing a key offense rebound and muscling the ball into the hoop with just a few minutes remaining n the game. The Johnnies made one final run at the Eagles cutting the lead to 2 points with just under a minute left in the game. A big steal by Dewitt Burnham, and some clutch free throwing shooting by both Nick Seretta and Chris Holstein sealed the deal, and Eaglebrook walked away with a nice four point victory, 34-30.

All told it was a great afternoon of basketball, and the Eagles are looking ahead to their next game against Suffield Academy on Monday.
