Why would you send a sixth-grade boy to boarding school? Shouldn't a ninth-grade student start high school? What is a junior boarding school? Make an appointment to visit us today and learn why Eaglebrook, a boarding and day school for boys in middle school, might be the right place for your son.
Eaglebrook School was founded in 1922 by Howard Gibbs as a private boarding and day school for boys in middle school. Learn about our school in Deerfield, Massachusetts then and now, and read about the Core Skills we think every boy should know.
At Eaglebrook, we recognize that all students learn in different ways, vary in their innate abilities, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Classes at Eaglebrook are organized to meet the needs of each boy.
Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. Activities outside of the academic classroom are important to the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of boys in middle school. Learn about the programs we offer at Eaglebrook, from athletics to arts.
At Eaglebrook, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Delivering on our mission is only possible through the incredible generosity of alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends.”
Eaglebrook alum Alex Vishno '94 returned to the Hill on January 15 to play at a Hilly Chase. Alex has had many adventures since graduating from Eaglebrook, and most recently he is involved in Electronic Dance Music (EDM). His show was amazing, and the students had a blast. Watch a clip here. Before he played, Mr. Chase introduced Alex by reading a letter he wrote to Headmaster Stuart Chase two years after he graduated. Watch a clip of that here. See photos from the night here.
We asked Alex, who has come back to the campus a few times to share his music with the students, why he likes returning. He had this to say, “Since graduating Eaglebrook I have returned a handful of times and every time have been offered an incredibly warm welcome. I wonder sometimes how I am even deserving of this (I was far from the perfect student) but what I realize now is that I know the EBS faculty takes great pride in helping students grow. When we return, I can only imagine it must be fun to see how the roots they helped develop have become fully functioning and interesting people. It is really a family that I have at Eaglebrook, and I often think it would be a terrific experience to be a part of the faculty:). Simply walking around campus and the smell of certain buildings remind me of friendships, fun, sports, art (I loved it all) and the terrific food in the Dining Hall. I am proud to be a part of the community.”
We also asked him how Eaglebrook helped to shape him in to the person he is today, and he said the following, “Eaglebrook shaped me by, well, disciplining me! I was pretty typical, bending the rules here and there, and getting caught by the savvy faculty. However as I realized that I could engage the system that Eaglebrook creates, I learned that I could do absolutely anything. The world was my oyster so to speak. Life beyond EBS is just like that. I am constantly working to understand the system of all things, and using that knowledge to progress. Eaglebrook is like its own wonderful country, full of student and faculty perspectives from all over the world. The perspective I learned at EBS has stuck with me and continues teaching about the world I live in to this day.”
We are so appreciative of Alex’s visit, and we hope he comes back again in the near future. Learn more about Alex and his music through his website http://vishnorocks.com/.
