Why would you send a sixth-grade boy to boarding school? Shouldn't a ninth-grade student start high school? What is a junior boarding school? Make an appointment to visit us today and learn why Eaglebrook, a boarding and day school for boys in middle school, might be the right place for your son.
Eaglebrook School was founded in 1922 by Howard Gibbs as a private boarding and day school for boys in middle school. Learn about our school in Deerfield, Massachusetts then and now, and read about the Core Skills we think every boy should know.
At Eaglebrook, we recognize that all students learn in different ways, vary in their innate abilities, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Classes at Eaglebrook are organized to meet the needs of each boy.
Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. Activities outside of the academic classroom are important to the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of boys in middle school. At Eaglebrook, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Delivering on our mission is only possible through the incredible generosity of alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends.”
On Saturday, December 17 the Varsity Hockey team took on St. Sebastian's in the consolation game of the Belmont Hill tournament. Eaglebrook played with far more flare and enthusiasm and set the tone right away when Zeke Emerson took a clean breakout pass and rifled a slapper past the St. Sebastian keeper for an early 1-0 lead 14 seconds into the game. The lead lasted until the dying seconds of the second period, literally, when some sloppy neutral zone coverage conceded a breakaway which St. Sebastian's converted an instant before the buzzer ending the period. Eaglebrook responded in kind and took a 2-1 lead when some strong forechecking by Zeke Emerson found Brendan O'Connell swinging around the net. O'Connell tucked the puck in on the wraparound and Eaglebrook had the lead again. Some sloppy defensive clearances led to some St. Sebastian's chances. Jackson Elkins, a 7th grader making his first start for the Varsity club, made some key stops. However, a bad defensive zone turnover led to a mad scramble in front of the net and a tie game. The Eagles lost the game in the final seconds when a neutral zone turnover led to an odd man rush which St. Sebastian's converted with 10 seconds to play. The Eagles hopefully will learn from these mistakes when they take on Deerfield in their second meeting of the season after the winter break.
