Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. The 2011 Junior Blue Soccer season got underway on a beautiful early fall afternoon of Wednesday, September 21. With less than two weeks of practice, the 13 Junior Blues were confident, but clearly nervous and untested in game situations as they took the field. Suffice it to say, the Blues had an outstanding opening by virtue of excellent team play and a consistent offensive attack that was able to challenge an older and physically larger Greenfield Middle School throughout the contest. With limited bench support (the 2011 Junior Blue squad has the fewest players in the team's history due to a limited number of Third and Fourth Formers electing to play soccer this year) the young Eagles were able to maximize the ability of each player by employing excellent ball control and keeping the field spread. Eaglebrook took advantage of early handball in the penalty area against Greenfield to take an early lead in what was going to be a very close and well-played first half by both teams. With the Eagles holding a two-goal advantage as the first half was coming to a close Greenfield was awarded a penalty kick with 5 seconds remaining, which cut the Eagles lead in half. The first half ended at 2 to 1. The second half was controlled again by a very impressive balanced offensive attack resulting in Eaglebrook outscoring Greenfield by a 4 to 1 margin. What can only be described as a terrific start to a promising season, the Junior Blues will travel to Keene New Hampshire on Friday, September 25 for what looks to be another challenging match. Members of the 2011 Junior Blue Team are: John Kuzmeski, Kevin Kuzmeski, PJ Miccoli, Patterson Malcolm, Saul Blain, Dom Poulsen, Brian Lew, Brent Young, Tim Rungsrithong, Charlie Beall, Peter Koenigsbauer, Jun-O Park, and Austin Gwon. Coaches K and Julius are extremely proud of how well the Blues have responded as a team in such a relatively short period of time. It is an exciting team with quality young men.
