Reunion 2011

The rain that came through on Saturday morning and stuck around for the rest of the day did not spoil Reunion 2011. Instead, the rain gave the Eaglebrook alums who had traveled from places near and far some time to sit and reconnect with one another. It did not rain on Friday night, which was perfect for the barbeque on Infirmary Field. Special guests were The Sweet Remains, featuring Brian Chartrand ’91 who played two incredible sets under the stars that night. Watch a clip of The Sweet Remains.

On Saturday morning, there was a panel discussion moderated by Jeff Connor ’83, the Chair of the Performing Arts Department. David Cluett ’71, a photographer, Bill Geddes ’81, also a photographer, and Eric Wiberg ’86, a writer, spoke about art in the world and at Eaglebrook. Watch a clip here. After the panel discussion Headmaster Andy Chase ’73 gave the Eaglebrook Today talk about where Eaglebrook is as an institution and where it is heading. Andy answered questions from the various alums in attendance and at the end invited members of the class of 1961, who were celebrating their 50th Reunion, to speak about their time on the Hill. John-Alexis Viereck ’61, who was back for his first Reunion since graduating, had this to share:

I found a connection with trees, with nature, with seasons, and I come back to that again and again and again…I am glad about all the new things that are happening, and I know there will be other new things to follow, but someone also talked about staying with basics, respect, loving kindness, a connection to a place, and beauty. It fed me, it nourished me, it kept me alive, it changed my life, and I feel like Commencement in 1961…was a beginning. It was an incredible experience and it is an amazing community.

Eaglebrook School archivist Marshall Coleman gave a talk Saturday afternoon called "Here the Marching Seasons Go" about the history of living at Eaglebrook. Watch a clip of that here. The weekend was capped off with a candlelit dinner on Saturday night in Gibbs Dining Hall where members of the classes in attendance gave poignant and often hilarious recountings of their times at Eaglebrook. See photos from Reunion 2011 here. The Eaglebrook Alumni community is invited back for Reunion 2012, held next year from June 8-10.
