EAGLES CIRCLE HIGH OVER THE BELMONT HILL
Sir Edmund Hillary traversed and climbed Everest Mountain successfully, in much the same way as Eaglebrook reached the summit of Belmont Hill. Challenges were faced along the way, and in the face of adversity, true grit, and determination, skill and challenge will always triumph. The wind was swirling and long, lofted balls were finding difficulty with the altitude and if the ball dropped without a head competing, then our defense would need more than crampons to chaperone the fast paced Belmont attack. However, as the minutes ticked on, the Eagles grew in confidence so much it appeared they had built their own bivouac, as they were camped for so long in the Belmont area. Shots clanged off defensive players and it appeared as if the rocky Belmont defense would eventually collapse, into a crevasse of its own making. This proved to be the case.
Twice in the minutes leading up to half time, the Eagles scored. Fedrerico Garza shook off the harness of his midfield marker and found the lively Zander Chase on the left wing, who crossed the ball with glacier like accuracy to the far post, where Jaime Alverde, abseiled high and with power, to head the ball home and deep into the base of the Belmont net. The Eagles, fueled now with confidence and adrenalin, climbed on the rope ladder to success and pushed on. The ball found its way out wide from Nate Summers to the unmarked Jaime Alverde, who drove the ball in hard and low, where the predatory Andreas Piepenburg glissaded the ball home with the accuracy of a well placed crampon. The half time whistle went and all was well. The second half was a different story, as the fluidity of play was rappelled time and time again, and the young Eagles were denied more goals, ensured that the match remained tight for the entire mission. One defensive lapse allowed Belmont a flicker of hope, but in reality, the Eagles were never in danger of losing this game. Their assured spell in the first half was enough to see the boys home to base camp safely. Diego Narchi in goal brings a confidence to the climbers, which allow them to start the ascent to victory with an inner felling of success before the expedition even begins.
So, with DA coming to town next Wednesday, pitching the O'Connell brothers on opposite sides of the range, it should prove to be an interesting day out and hopefully an avalanche of goals for the young Eagles.
