JV Lacrosse v. Cushing Academy

On a cold, rainy Wednesday afternoon, Eaglebrook’s JV lacrosse team traveled out to Cushing Academy for the sixth game of our season. Playing in slick conditions and on an unfamiliar turf field, you could say that the Brookies were at a disadvantage, but that should not really be an excuse. Eaglebrook, however, came out of the gates firing, with Brendan O’Connell scoring our first goal on a soft shot that slipped by Cushing’s goalie. Cushing responded by a goal of their own, and their fast paced offense with numerous cuts and runs was difficult for our defense to contain. After Cushing’s tying goal, however, Eaglebrook responded with another goal, this time from the stick of Zander Chase, his first of the season. Shortly after, Cam Patch put in another goal, driving to the net and scoring on a close range shot. At halftime, the score was 3-1 in favor of Eaglebrook, and the team was feeling good and ready to play.

After the break, unfortunately, the Eagles came out flat, and let in four unanswered goals without finding the back of the net again. The game ended with a final score of 5-3 in favor of Cushing. In the second half, Eaglebrook struggled on clears and play in the middle of the field, and the defense continued to have troubles with the fast-moving, aggressive offense of Cushing.

We know what the team needs to do, and we won’t have to wait long for another chance to play, as we play Westfield for the second time on Thursday. We will look for the team to be excited and ready to play for another game against the competitive play of Westfield.
