Varsity Basketball at the Holyoke Tournament -- Sunday

On Sunday, February 21, the Eagles took to the floor against Holyoke High School’s freshman team. In a very evenly matched game, Eaglebrook’s first half troubles continued to hound them on the offensive end. Unable to find any consistency offensively, the Brookies continued to rely on the defense to keep them in the game. Down 10 points early in the first half, Eaglebrook managed to fight their way back to tie the score at 16, but closed the half down 3, 21-18.

Eaglebrook finally found some rhythm on the offensive end in the second half. Great ball movement around the perimeter opened up a number of scoring opportunities for Amani Core, John Lee, and Henry Trotter. In turn, the post players drew lots of attention, and deftly found the open shooters on the perimeter. Hadley Stone, Chris Holhstein, Nick Seretta, and Billy O’Neil all hit big threes to help Eaglebrook keep pace with the hot shooting Gaels from Holyoke. Appropriately, the game came down to the final few possessions. Eaglebrook took a one point lead on Amani Core’s lay-up with 1:09 left in the game, and came up big on the defensive end, forcing an off balance shot by the Gaels. Unfortunately a turnover with 16 second left gave Holyoke the final chance they were hoping for, as they were able to convert on a runner in the lane, taking a 48-47 lead with 3 seconds to play. Eaglebrook was unable to convert on their last second play, and suffered their third last second loss in four years at the Boys Club Tournament.
