The Bear Necessities Share Their Signature Sound

On Friday evening, students gathered for a special musical performance by The Bear Necessities, Brown University's a cappella group.
Fourteen members of the group delivered an engaging program that showcased the range, creativity, and energy that define their distinctive sound.

Known for their dynamic tenor-bass arrangements, The Bear Necessities combine musical precision with an entertaining stage presence. Some singers provided percussion through beatboxing and vocal rhythms, creating a full and layered musical experience without instruments. Their performance highlighted the collaborative nature of a cappella music and the dedication required to produce such a polished sound.

Among the performers was Eaglebrook alumnus Everett Liu ’21, whose participation made the evening especially meaningful for the school community.

Following the performance, the group graciously answered students' questions, offering insight into their rehearsal process, musical selections, and the camaraderie that defines their ensemble. Open to undergraduate students from both Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design, the group emphasizes musicality, community, and a shared enthusiasm for performance.

The visit provided students with an opportunity to experience live collegiate a cappella and to connect with performers who continue to pursue music alongside their academic studies.
