Eaglebrook School was founded in 1922 by Howard Gibbs as a private boarding and day school for boys in middle school. Learn about our school in Deerfield, Massachusetts then and now, and read about the Core Skills we think every boy should know.
At Eaglebrook, we recognize that all students learn in different ways, vary in their innate abilities, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Classes at Eaglebrook are organized to meet the needs of each boy.
Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. Activities outside of the academic classroom are important to the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of boys in middle school. At Eaglebrook, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Delivering on our mission is only possible through the incredible generosity of alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends.”
On February 4, students gathered at Lower Amy’s at the Easton Ski Area for one of the students’ favorite Eaglebrook traditions: cardboard sled racing.
The night was cold and clear, perfect for a crowd of excited students to spectate the sled races. Directly after dinner, racers donned their helmets and gear as they worked in teams to carry their creations up the hill. Non-racers grabbed a cup of hot chocolate and picked out their vantage spots for the race.
This year saw a myriad of creative designs, including a red chili pepper, a Viking longship, a tank, the USS Banana Split, a canoe (complete with paddles), a Crayola crayon, sleds named after Dorms, and, of course, Eddie the Eagle. Before the race, students voted for their favorite design, crowning the pepper the winner.
Racers were matched up in groups of three, and it was 3-2-1 GO! Students cheered for their favorites, with a few unexpected winners surprising the crowd. While some sleds took off at full speed, sending snow flying, others were simply along for the ride. Win or lose, it was a joyful evening that captured the spirit of winter on the Eaglebrook campus.
