Bruins Name Austin Borggaard '21 Top Male Athlete in Massachusetts Hockey

BOSTON, Mass. – April 16, 2024 – We’re excited to announce that Austin Borggaard '21, son of Andy Borggaard '87 and brother of Drew Borggaard '24, has received the John Carlton Memorial Trophy from the Boston Bruins for his performance as the outstanding male athlete in Massachusetts high school or junior high hockey.

The trophy is annually awarded to students who “excel in hockey and in off-ice endeavors, including academics and extracurriculars.”

Austin is from Worcester, Massachusetts, and attends St. Mark’s School, where he plays hockey and lacrosse. He is a senior this year, and he captained St. Mark’s varsity hockey team, garnering 24 goals and 25 assists for 49 points in 28 games. These stats led the Independent School League (ISL) and earned Austin a spot on the All-ISL 1st team.

Austin is also an honor roll student and will continue his academic and hockey careers at Sacred Heart University in the fall of 2025.

Austin and his fellow award winner, Monique Lyons of Williston Northampton School, will be honored at tonight’s Bruins game with the Ottawa Senators at TD Garden.

Austin had a great career at Eaglebrook. He captained the varsity hockey team in his Sixth Form year and was a key part of the winningest varsity hockey team in school history. The 2020 team secured a 23-1-2 record during his Fifth Form year, and Austin scored a dramatic game-winning goal in a sudden-death shootout against Cardigan, which ensured a rare season sweep against the Cougars.
