A junior boarding and day school for boys in grades six, seven, eight, and nine
Varsity Tennis v. Deerfield Academy
The snow melted, the rain abated, and the wind dried the courts so that the Eagles could play host to their talented neighbors down the Hill. Deerfield Academy's JV Boys team visited for a spirited competition that lasted nearly 3 hours - each hour filled with excellent competition and sportsmanship. The match began with doubles competition. The 1st and 3rd pairs were clear victories to Eaglebrook and DA, respectively, while the 2nd pairings battles deep into the set. Ultimately Eaglebrook earned the doubles point, and the match moved into singles competition.
Deerfield’s line up was full of strong athletes boasting well-balanced talent from #1-#6. This made for great matches at the top of the lineup and gave Deerfield the upper hand at the bottom half of the lineup. Of particular note was the homecoming for Jeffrey So '16, who took on Ben Jones ‘19 at the number 2 slot. The two baseliners battled fiercely, but the former Captain of the Eagles squad was bested by Jones, giving Eaglebrook their second point on the day. John Pope ‘19 prevailed at #3, and Alexis Pontones (‘18) fought to a tiebreaker victory for the 4th, and decisive point, coming from the #1 slot. Deerfield claimed victories at the 4, 5 and 6 singles spots, making for a hard-fought 4-3 overall victory for the Eagles. Both teams will look forward to the rematch next month.
This Saturday the Eagles will travel to Cardigan Mountain.
