Swimming v. Westminster and Wilbraham & Monson

The Eaglebrook swim team traveled to Westminster School for a tri-meet with Westy and the Titans from Wilbraham-Monson School. This meet was a perfect early season showcase for the swimmers from Pocomtuck Mountain. Despite a 2 ½ hour bus ride along a partially closed, under-construction Rt.91, and then passing a horrific multi-car-truck accident, the Brookies arrived with fifteen minutes to warm up. The meet started very fast, Eaglebrook apparently broke the school medley relay record for the third time this season, flying past the other two varsity prep school quartets. Unfortunately, the team was DQed for a quick start. Not the start to the meet that the coaches had expected. The Brookies came back strong led with great swims by Qais Hijazi and Michel Xu in the 200Free, Andrew Chang, Thomas Bowers in The 200IM and Jack Sun In the 50Free. Now, Eaglebrook was only 2 points down to both Westy and Wilbraham-Monson. Then the diving took place and both varsity teams scored while EBS did not have any divers.

With seven events to swim EBS needed to race and race fast. Eaglebrook began inching back when Jeffrey Lim came through in the 100 Fly taking a first and second to the opposing swimmers. In the 100 Free, Alex Ahmed, Henry Wiemeyer, and James Chen swam personal bests to take second, third, and fourth against a much more mature lineup from the preps. Still behind, Qais Hijazi and Hudson McGuinness took second and third in the 500Free. The 200Free relay brought the Eaglegbrook team back on top taking first and third places. With a slight lead going into the last event, the 400Free relay, the EBS  squad needed a first and third place finish to ensure a dual victory. In the final outcome,  EBS tied Westy and beat WM by 3 points. The team swims at home against Eagle Hill School, looking to break the school  200 Freestyle relay record, and is looking forward to Saturday’s dual at the Exeter pool. It should be a fast and furious week.
