Varsity Lacrosse v. Cardigan Mountain School

The Eagles hosted the Cougars of Cardigan Mountain on Saturday afternoon to cap off their season. The Eagles get off to a great start, holding the potent opposition off the scoreboard by displaying great poise and control on defense. The Cougars were able to get on the board first with a transition goal and soon added another on a settled situation, despite the Eagles deflecting the pass in the process. The Eagles continued to prevent looks inside and let John Kuzmeski handle the outside shots. The score stood 2-0 after one quarter of play. The Eagles soon went on the man up and Malcolm Arseneau had a nice near post goal to put the home team on the board. The Eagles had a great display of clearing on the day, as they were patient and composed. The attack core, consisting of Brent Young, Jack Pagano, Garrett Moe and MacGregor Peterson also did a great job of riding on the day and deterring the Cougars defense from having an easy time moving the ball up field. Off of a Kuzmeski save, John was able to find a streaking Reid Clemmension near the box that was later fed down to MacGregor Peterson for a nice finish. Mikaal Griffith played a significant role in the clearing game all day. He was able to jump in the play, as he sprinted over the midline and dumped the ball off to Garrett Moe who had a nice door stop finish. The Eagles clearing game showed much improvement throughout this game, as they limited turnovers and were able to find the soft spots in the field. The momentum shifted back and forth throughout the quarter, however, with one second remaining in the half, the Cougars were able to find a seam inside the Eagles defense to get one before time expired. The Eagles trailed 7-3, but would go into half ready to get back to work. The Eagles came out determined to pull within reach of the Cougars lead, but, but the opposition extended their lead with good ball movement and skilled strikes. MacGregor Peterson added one more on the day as he had a nice rip in the interior of the Cougars defense late in the game. Despite the final result, the Eagles were able to walk off the field knowing that they gave it everything they had and played until the final horn sounded. On defense, Doug Johnson played his best game all season, limiting the opposing threats and throwing timely checks. Kevin Kuzmeski and Chris Rymes both played staunch defense and helped the transition game. Jun Park continued to contribute as a member of the man down unit. Jun also caused some excitement, eluding three Cougars while clearing the ball. John Kuzmeski once again provided the Eagles with a strong performance between the pipes as well. The coaching staff would like to thank the captains of the team, Brent Young and John Kuzmeski for their leadership contributions, as well as their fellow Sixth Form peers who played an integral role in the team’s success, Doug Johnson, Malcolm Arseneau, Mikaal Griffith, Alex Gadowski, Tiger Lee, Mika Toikka and Saul Blain. Thank you for your support throughout the season.
