Responsibilities
  • Active support of the school's Mission
    • Modeling of appropriate student conduct
    • Advocate for students
    • Individualize approach to each student
  • Student Supervision
    • In charge of supervising advisee’s academic work
      • Monitor daily preparation and homework completion
      • Advise on course selection
      • Communicate with teachers and parents on student progress
      • Help coordinate make up work when student is absent
      • Initiate and organize advisee team meetings (lunch meetings) when necessary
    • Help students develop age-appropriate life skills
      • Personal hygiene
      • Time management
      • Inter-personal communications
    • Mediate conflicts between students
    • Mediate difficulties between teachers and advisees
    • Assign appropriate consequences in discipline situations and communicate those to colleagues
    • Model good practices
  • Support and supervise Sixth Formers with their assemblies
  • Read and apply information gained from memos and meetings
  • Communicate information gained from your own experience to others (parents, administrators, and other faculty)
  • Act as a liaison between parents and school, through frequent phone and written communication
  • Support and advise other faculty in the execution of their jobs
  • Complete necessary writing projects:
    • Mid-terms comments
    • Mid-Term Letters
    • Term-End Comments, including residential life comment
    • Responding to in-house and parental communications promptly
  • Help school develop sound age appropriate curriculum
  • Keep abreast of new developments in adolescent development
  • Anticipate events and workload, maintaining a personal calendar
  • Communicate with colleagues about necessary coverage
  • Attend weekly Dorm and Full Faculty meetings
  • Manage paperwork ( student memos and advisee record keeping)
  • Participate in evaluation program
An advisors immediate supervisors for matters related to advising is his or her Dorm Head.
