Thirds Baseball Keeps Rectory Close, but Falls in Final Inning, 4-1

POMFRET, Conn, – April 20, 2024 – The Eagles traveled to Pomfret, Connecticut, on Saturday to take on Pomfret. Shaking off the recent bout of bad weather, the teams enjoyed a warm, partly sunny day for their game.

They played a 5-inning game, with Rectory claiming a 5-1 victory. But the contest remained close through the first four innings, with the score tied 1-1 heading into the final frame.

Some unlucky line drives by Eagle batters hit right at Rectory defenders, played a role in limiting Eaglebrook scoring, and left runners stranded on base.

Highlights of the game included:
  • Great pitching from Baker D. '25 and Kyle Z. '25, both of whom found ways to escape tough innings with runners on base;
  • Ryan K. '25 for a great game behind the plate;
  • Prescott Z. '25, who – in the first baseball game of his life – managed to go two-for-two with two first-pitch hits. He’s batting 1.000!
  • Heads up rules awareness from Kyle W. '26, who correctly argued that he wasn’t out at third because Rectory’s third baseman tagged him with an empty glove.
  • Henrik P. '25 for scoring our solo run and Prescott for driving him in for the team’s first RBI of the season.
