Why would you send a sixth-grade boy to boarding school? Shouldn't a ninth-grade student start high school? What is a junior boarding school? Make an appointment to visit us today and learn why Eaglebrook, a boarding and day school for boys in middle school, might be the right place for your son.
Eaglebrook School was founded in 1922 by Howard Gibbs as a private boarding and day school for boys in middle school. Learn about our school in Deerfield, Massachusetts then and now, and read about the Core Skills we think every boy should know.
At Eaglebrook, we recognize that all students learn in different ways, vary in their innate abilities, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Classes at Eaglebrook are organized to meet the needs of each boy.
Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. Activities outside of the academic classroom are important to the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of boys in middle school. At Eaglebrook, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Delivering on our mission is only possible through the incredible generosity of alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends.”
It was a special schedule on Martin Luther King Day, always a school day at Eaglebrook, this year. Usually we start that day with an assembly honoring Dr. King and then move on to classes where teachers may choose to elaborate on the themes spoken about in assembly if time allows. This year, however, a group called Cometry came to Eaglebrook for the entire first part of the day. Cometry is a stand-up comedy and performance poetry group that visits schools to talk about leadership development and diversity appreciation.
The group began the morning with an assembly for the whole school, introducing their themes and getting students involved. They then broke into groups for the rest of the morning, going into more depth with students and teachers. Chris Brown, Co-Coordinator of Diversity, who worked to bring the Cometry group to campus, had this to say about their visit, “The purpose of bringing Cometry to Eaglebrook was to better inform and educate both faculty and students about the importance of diversity awareness in middle school. It was also a great way for the community to hear and see the thought process of others and how certain comments, actions, and behaviors can severely affect people when taken out of context. Lastly, their message fit perfectly with our Core Skills and Values, therefore making it a great opportunity to have these skills and values reinforced by outside voices.” See photos from Cometry’s visit here.
