Why would you send a sixth-grade boy to boarding school? Shouldn't a ninth-grade student start high school? What is a junior boarding school? Make an appointment to visit us today and learn why Eaglebrook, a boarding and day school for boys in middle school, might be the right place for your son.
Eaglebrook School was founded in 1922 by Howard Gibbs as a private boarding and day school for boys in middle school. Learn about our school in Deerfield, Massachusetts then and now, and read about the Core Skills we think every boy should know.
At Eaglebrook, we recognize that all students learn in different ways, vary in their innate abilities, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Classes at Eaglebrook are organized to meet the needs of each boy.
Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. Activities outside of the academic classroom are important to the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of boys in middle school. Learn about the programs we offer at Eaglebrook, from athletics to arts.
At Eaglebrook, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Delivering on our mission is only possible through the incredible generosity of alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends.”
Eaglebrook opened its doors to students for the 101st time last week. This school year, we are welcoming 250 students from 19 states and 23 different countries.
Day students and boarding Sixth Formers arrived on campus on Tuesday, September 6. While the rain did force everyone inside it didn’t stop them from opening day festivities. Day students cheered at the opportunity to play “rock paper scissors” in a large group setting and enjoy icebreaker activities in two groups. This was just before Boarding Sixth Formers arrived on campus being greeted by none other than the Head of School Mr. Chase. Click here to see pictures from that day.
On Wednesday, September 7, Sixth Formers took part in leadership activities both on and off campus. One group of boys was driven out to Morse Hill Outdoor Education Center in nearby Leverett, MA while the remaining students attended leadership activities on campus.
The next day, new students participated in the “A Day in The Life” Presentation led by Dr. Cyr-Mutty. Later on, while returning students reacquainted themselves with campus, new students took a hike to the Rock along with faculty. During this, Sixth Form students participated in additional leadership activities. Click here to see pictures from those events.
Students began classes on Friday, September 8, and got their first real taste of Eaglebrook’s rigorous academics. The first athletic practices were also held on the fields around campus. The next day, Saturday, was a special day of classes for all students. New students were also treated to cookouts by dorm at various campsites on campus Saturday evening. Their Sixth Form Big Brothers came out to the sites to hang out and play games. Click here to see pictures from those events.
Sunday students were greeted with the year’s inaugural Sunday Meeting on Infirmary Field. The most memorable part of the night was Mr. Chase's adage: “We are all part of a new beginning” as he described the continuation of Eaglebrook’s traditions into the next century. Dr. Paul Cyr-Mutty, Dean of Teaching and Learning, delivered a message about looking toward the positives in life shortly before Mr. Chase’s speech. The meeting concluded with the singing of the Eaglebrook Hymn followed by students and faculty taking a few moments to reflect.
