Eaglebrook School was founded in 1922 by Howard Gibbs as a private boarding and day school for boys in middle school. Learn about our school in Deerfield, Massachusetts then and now, and read about the Core Skills we think every boy should know.
At Eaglebrook, we recognize that all students learn in different ways, vary in their innate abilities, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Classes at Eaglebrook are organized to meet the needs of each boy.
Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. Activities outside of the academic classroom are important to the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of boys in middle school. At Eaglebrook, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Delivering on our mission is only possible through the incredible generosity of alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends.”
Facing Smith Academy, our oldest opponent yet (mostly high-schoolers), the JV2 team was clearly nervous at the opening whistle. Fortunately, our entire team came to play. For the opening half, we kept possession of the ball about 75% of the time and allowed ourselves ample opportunities to score. But alas, it was 0-0 at the half.
Smith found themselves with a penalty shot early on in the second half and executed their shot in the top left corner. Not discouraged in the least, the Eagles quickly replied to tie 1-1. With 10 minutes left to go, Smith scored again.
Down 1-2 with 60 seconds remaining, our second loss of the season seemed imminent. But out of nowhere came a sneaky goal from the 6-yard line. There was hope! With seconds to go, the JV2 players rushed forward, leaving only one player on defense. The tactic and added pressure paid off, for we found the net from way outside the 18 with literally one second left. A miracle goal and last-second victory that cleared the bench, resulting in a boisterous celebration for the ages! What. A. Game.
