Leif Riddington named Director of Secondary School Advising
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Leif Riddington as Eaglebrook School’s new Director of Secondary School Advising. Leif will be taking over the department from Karl J. Koenigsbuaer who, after 45 years at Eaglebrook and 22 years as the Dean of Placement, will be retiring at the conclusion of the academic year. Riddington will officially begin in the role on July 1 but will begin working closely with both Koenigsbauer and Head of School Andrew Chase this spring. The office is being restructured and expanded. Ruth Koenigsbauer will also join the Placement Office as the Associate Director of Secondary School Advising. Koenigsbauer most recently served as the English Department Chair.
Head of School Andrew Chase announced the hiring saying “Leif will be leading Secondary School Advising with his wealth of experience advising students and families and knowing each secondary school where we send our graduates."
Riddington most recently served as an educational consultant and managed the placement process for client families from the United States, Korea, and China since 2018. Additionally, Riddington spent 10 years serving as the Director of Secondary School Placement at The Bement School in Deerfield, MA from 2008 until 2018. While at The Bement School, Riddington served in a variety of roles including the director of strategic initiatives, English department chair, dorm parent, and coach.
Prior to his roles at The Bement School, Riddington taught at Four Rivers Charter School and Beaver Country Day School. Riddington is no stranger to Eaglebrook, as he began his teaching career at Eaglebrook School, where he taught English, served as a dormitory advisor, coached soccer, squash, and ultimate disc.
Riddington is a graduate of Northfield Mount Hermon and the University of Massachusetts where he received his bachelor of arts degree and master’s degree in English education.
“When I started my career at Eaglebrook exactly twenty-five years ago, I told my late mentor, Jim Percival, that I didn’t want to become a good English teacher, I wanted to become a great one. That same aspiration has guided me throughout the thirteen years that I have done secondary school advising in junior boarding schools and beyond. I was so lucky throughout those years to have found another remarkable Eaglebrook mentor to inspire me in the person of Mr. Karl J. Koenigsbauer. What excites me about this role is, fittingly, that the adjectives that describe the ideal classroom are the same ones that describe secondary school advising at Eaglebrook: The work is consequential, collaborative, and transformative, words on which to base a life and career. I am very honored to be returning to Eaglebrook and hope to bring to the community the best iteration of myself as a person and as a professional,” said Riddington.
