Celebrating Country Fair Weekend In A New Way

Eaglebrook’s 78th Country Fair felt a bit different, but the spirit remained. While parents, alumni, and friends were not able to come to campus for Country Fair, it did not stop the students –  both boarding and day –  from partaking in the festivities.

Advisee groups prepared posters to advertise their concession stands and prepared the concessions themselves on Wednesday, October 14. Typically, the prep usually takes place following dinner, but this year the prep session was held in the afternoon to allow for Day Student participation. Photos from Country Fair prep can be found here.

Friday was a normal class day for students on campus. Parents were given access to each of their child’s teachers pages on 'myEBS' where they could find and watch an introductory video for each class. Parent-Teacher conferences, usually held on Saturday afternoon following the fair instead took place virtually over a two-week period. Photos from the Friday class day can be found here.

Saturday afternoon was a picture-perfect day for a few intersquad athletic contests. JV1 soccer scrimmaged against Varsity soccer and JV2 soccer scrimmaged against Thirds soccer. Photos from the scrimmages can be found here.

Country Fair festivities kicked off on Sunday morning. The threat of rain postponed the fair from its traditional place on Saturday morning to Sunday morning.   Sunday was a picturesque fall day in New England. Students enjoyed the concession booths which were set up on Memorial Field and the Football Field instead of Infirmary Field due to spacing restrictions. While different, students had the opportunity to enjoy one of Eaglebrook’s most cherished traditions. Photos from Eaglebrook’s 78th Country Fair can be found here and a video recap can be found here

Following Country Fair Weekend on Wednesday, October 21, Andrew Chase, Head of School, held a “State of Eaglebrook” meeting via Zoom for parents. Jon ‘84 and Julie Murchinson, Chairs of the Parents’ Committee, reflected on the fall term so far. Jon Grenzke ‘91, President of the Board of Trustees, spoke about the efforts undertaken by school employees over the last few months to open the school this fall. Shappy LaPointe, Dean of School Life, discussed some highlights from Country Fair. Colin and Nicola Dowling, Parent Chairs of the Annual Fund, shared some thoughts on the importance of participating in the Annual Fund. Dr. Wayne Hioe, Eaglebrook’s Medical Director, updated parents on the status of the health of our community. The well-attended meeting was a great chance for families to see some new faces. Parents were encouraged by what they heard as the second half of the trimester is underway.

Country Fair is a wonderful tradition and although we couldn’t bring families together with their children this year, we are excited and looking forward to Country Fair next year as part of Eaglebrook’s 100th anniversary!
