The Copley Library Celebrates Banned Book Week

The Library is celebrating banned books week 2019 with a variety of activities. Morning assembly slides have publicized these events as well as provide the context for why we celebrate Banned Books and will highlight the top 10 banned books of 2018. Students are invited to participate in the "Name that shredded banned book " contest and write a postcard to their favorite banned book author telling them how their words have impacted them. A book display in the library provides access to copies of the top banned books of 2018.

About Banned Books Week (from the website of the American Library Association):
Banned Books Week (September 22-28, 2019) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. It brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular, but also encourage thoughtful discussions about the power of words and how essential it is to have access to a variety of viewpoints in libraries.
