The 97th Eaglebrook Winter Carnival
Eaglebrook School’s 97th Winter Carnival weekend was held February 1st through February 2nd. Parents attended classes with their children on Friday, see photos from the day here. In the early afternoon, the Music Department held their annual Winter Carnival Concert which featured the string orchestra, the band, the jazz band, the chorus, the Eaglebrook Ad Libs, and piano soloists. Photos and video from the concert are here.
After morning classes, the concert, and afternoon sports practices and games, many parents watched an evening performance of the 2019 Winter Carnival Play, Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew”. Watch a scene from the play here and see photos from the performance here.
Saturday morning began with the Parents’ Committee Symposia. Parents from each Form were given an interactive presentation entitled “In the Face of Challenge”. Later in the morning, it was finally time for the second oldest Winter Carnival in the country to begin. It was a bitterly cold morning as participants and spectators came to the bottom of the Easton Ski Area bundled in layers. The first event was the cardboard sled race featuring Headmaster Andrew Chase’s sled, Eddie the Eagle, up against the winner of the cardboard sled design contest. For the first time ever, Mr. Chase broke his winning streak. The victors in the race were Jonathan Peng ’19 and Tanner Humphrey ’19 who built the Ferrari F1 sled. Watch that exciting race here.
After the cardboard sled races, dorms participated in the three-legged race, the Klondike sled races, jack jumping, ski jumping, and dual slalom races to win points for their dorm. For the second year in a row, Flagler House took home the Winter Carnival Cup. Saturday afternoon was filled with various athletic games and parent-teacher conferences.
