Opening Days 2018-2019 School Year

The 2018-2019 school year began on September 4th. There are 256 students at Eaglebrook this year, from 23 countries and 22 states.

The new international students and new day students arrived for orientation first. The opening days were designed to allow students to familiarize themselves with the Eaglebrook culture and campus. After the students moved into the dorm, Mr. Adam Williams and Mr. Carter Townsend led an ice-breaking activity in the gym. Parents of new international and new day students met with administrators and learned about Residential Life, Academic Curriculum, Health and Travel, Athletics, and the Weekend Program. To conclude the evening, there was a delicious meal served in the Gibbs Dining Hall. Photos from the day can be found here

All new boarding students arrived on the Hill on Wednesday, September 5th. New student arrival photos can be found here. After the students moved into the dorms, Mr. Adam Williams, the Outdoor Program Director, led a hike to the Rock on that particularly warm afternoon. While at the Rock Mr. Adam Williams shared useful and fun information about the area that the students will now call home.

Returning students made it to campus on Thursday, September 6th. While the returning students were moving into their dorms and meeting with their advisors, the new students were led by faculty members to various stations around campus. The new students were learned how to set up a tent, library procedures, dining hall procedures, and Dr. Adam Luker taught students the school Hymn.

Classes began on Friday, September 7th with a morning assembly followed by advisory meetings. Photos from the advisory meetings can be found here.

At morning assembly on Saturday, September 8th, Mr. Adam Luker taught the students the lyrics to the “Eaglebrook Hurrah” and discussed the importance of signing, school spirit, and unity. After classes, new students departed for the New Student campout, with a group from each dorm heading out to their campsite with their dorm faculty and advisor. Students hiked out to six different campus campsites. The evening was cold, but the warm campfire kept the students warm. Photos from the campout can be found here.

The first weekend came to an end with the first Sunday Meeting. Unlike the other Sunday Meetings, the first meeting is always held outside on Infirmary Field. The evening was quite chilly and the sun was nowhere to be found. Still, the evening was filled with beauty and reflection, as the faculty and students look toward a promising and fun-filled year ahead. Watch Headmaster Andrew Chase recounting the history of Eaglebrook during Sunday Meeting here. Dr. Paul Cyr-Mutty delivered a powerful message and you can watch that here. Ms. Rachel Blain gave the benediction, which can be viewed here. Lastly, Dr. Adam Luker led the community in song before a reflection period took place. Students then dispersed back to their dorms for the evening.

At last, the school year has begun. It’s going to be a wonderful year, and it will be exciting to see what gets accomplished. Watch a fun video from the Opening Days 2018 here!
