Eagles Top Math Competition at Deerfield Academy

For the second year in a row, Eaglebrook School won the Deerfield Academy Mathematics Competition. On Saturday, May 12th, the Math Team headed down to Deerfield Academy to compete in an all-day mathematics contest against peer teams from The Bement School, The Fay School, The Rectory School, and some other independent competitors, all in all, there were 15 teams competing for the honors. The Eaglebrook Team, OSC Eagles, was well in front of the competition after the individual rounds. However, in the afternoon team competitions, several teams grew closer to the leaders. In the final round, the OSC Eagles widened the margin and came out victorious with a resounding score of 605 with the second place Fay School putting up 473. Lin Zhu ’18 dominated the individual competition with 120 points earning back-to-back titles for the ninth grader. Also scoring high from Eaglebrook were three 8th graders:  Junho Moon (3rd overall), William Situ (4th), and Marco Ko (5th).

The Eaglebrook Mathematics Program will certainly miss the Sixth Form mathematics gurus, Alex Alexandrovskiy and Lin Zhu, who have both led us in several competitions over the past two years and served as productive and supportive math peer tutors in our Saturday Morning Activity Program. We are optimistic that these boys have left behind a legacy that these rising Sixth Form superstars will carry forward.
