March Lacrosse Trip to Florida

By Mark Pohlman, Varsity lacrosse coach
A group of 28 players and 4 coaches from the Eaglebrook lacrosse program descended on IMG Academy’s campus for four nights of lacrosse training toward the tail end of March Break. Excitement and energy filled the field as the boys got after it for their first session on Sunday evening. That night, the boys worked hard on fundamentals and created a solid foundation for the trip.

Training continued Monday morning, starting with a wall ball progression and a shooting clinic. From there, the boys continued with two more training sessions until the evening. For the third and final session of the day, the boys participated in a high tempo navy/white inter-squad scrimmage. Both teams worked hard, but the white team walked away with a one-goal victory. Following the scrimmage, the group got a chance to watch some high-level lacrosse as IMG Academy took on Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch, CO).

The Eagles were back at it again Tuesday morning, hitting the wall and shooting before another training session. After the training session, the Eagles took part in a scrimmage against the Dragons from Green Farms Academy. Both teams displayed strong skills, but eventually, the Dragons size and strength gave them a slight advantage. Lightning and rain washed out most the afternoon and evening, so the boys enjoyed some rest and relaxation.

The group finished off their final training day with a productive Wednesday morning session. Following the training, they all hopped on the bus and headed off to Anna Maria beach for the afternoon. Intense games of mini sticks, wave riding, and a ferocious defense from a flock of hungry seagulls occupied the boys. To culminate the week of training, the boys participated in their final field session scrimmaging their neighbors from Deerfield Academy. Despite the Big Green got the better of the Eagles, the boys showed strong resiliency and tenacity throughout the contest.

Overall, it was a great trip to the Sunshine State, as the Eaglebrook group enjoyed the experience and all participants showed strong improvement. The boys will look to build on this foundation as they head back to campus to kick off the spring season. See photos from the trip here
