Eaglebrook School was founded in 1922 by Howard Gibbs as a private boarding and day school for boys in middle school. Learn about our school in Deerfield, Massachusetts then and now, and read about the Core Skills we think every boy should know.
At Eaglebrook, we recognize that all students learn in different ways, vary in their innate abilities, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Classes at Eaglebrook are organized to meet the needs of each boy.
Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. Activities outside of the academic classroom are important to the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of boys in middle school. At Eaglebrook, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Delivering on our mission is only possible through the incredible generosity of alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends.”
Its Winter Carnival here at Eaglebrook and the Eagles faced off this Friday against Keene Middle School. The Eagles went to Keene just two weeks ago and lost a tough match 22-51, therefore the team knew that they were going to have to wrestle their best matches of the season, and in some places get a few breaks. Keene’s roster has many talented wrestlers and for our experienced wrestlers this meant they had to wrestle opponents with multiply years of experience.
When the match began, the Eagles won the first three matches by pin, then, Keene roared back and both teams battled back and forth throughout the entire match. Out of twenty-three matches, the Eagles were able to win twelve of the matches, and eight were by pin; however, the meet came down to the last two matches.
In the second to last match both wrestlers fought extremely hard and in the end of the match they went to overtime. Sadly, Keene was able to earn the takedown and won that match. Coach Barker knew that the Eagles could not get pinned in the last match of the meet and told his last wrestler just that. In order for the Eagles to win, they needed to not get pinned. This Sixth Form wrestler fought with every ounce of energy within him and did not surrender. He lost the match, but the Eagles were able to win the meet, 61-58.
This was a monumental win for the Eagles, during Winter Carnival, and in their last home match of the season. They were able to defeat a team by three points today's, the same team that they lost to by twenty-nine points just two weeks ago. The Eagles have one last match next Friday at the Fessenden School and then they will finish the season with the Eaglebrook Tournament and Fessenden Tournament. Less than three weeks are left in the season and the team is peaking at just the right time! Go Eagles!
