Why would you send a sixth-grade boy to boarding school? Shouldn't a ninth-grade student start high school? What is a junior boarding school? Make an appointment to visit us today and learn why Eaglebrook, a boarding and day school for boys in middle school, might be the right place for your son.
Eaglebrook School was founded in 1922 by Howard Gibbs as a private boarding and day school for boys in middle school. Learn about our school in Deerfield, Massachusetts then and now, and read about the Core Skills we think every boy should know.
At Eaglebrook, we recognize that all students learn in different ways, vary in their innate abilities, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Classes at Eaglebrook are organized to meet the needs of each boy.
Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. Activities outside of the academic classroom are important to the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of boys in middle school. Learn about the programs we offer at Eaglebrook, from athletics to arts.
At Eaglebrook, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Delivering on our mission is only possible through the incredible generosity of alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends.”
Eaglebrook classes ending in 2s or 7s were the special honorees at Reunion 2017, held June 9-11 on the school campus. Alums from all over the world returned to the Hill on Friday afternoon to enjoy a barbeque on Infirmary Field. Sam von Trapp ’87 donated beer from his new brewery, von Trapp Brewing, for all to enjoy, and Brad Beckerman ’96 donated jerk chicken for the meal. Classmates mingled with each other, the larger group of alumni, and with current and former faculty members and administrators throughout the night.
The traditional “Eaglebrook Today” talk was held in Copley Library on Saturday morning. Headmaster Andy Chase ’73 had everyone in the room speak about the school. Many alums spoke about what Eaglebrook has meant to them over the course of their lives. “When I came to Eaglebrook, it was like giving water to a flower,” Chris Kniffin ’72 said. “Being here was a defining moment in my life,” Scudder Fowler ’87 shared. “This school, unlike any other school I went to, really was a family, and to this day it is still a family,” he added.
A cocktail reception was held Saturday evening at the newly opened Edward P. Evans Academic Center, right on the bank of Whipple Pond. A candlelight dinner followed, where a representative from every class present spoke. Justice Ukadike spoke on behalf of the class of 2007. He gave a list of affirmations and gratitude for Eaglebrook, “Thank you for the Hill, the sunset, and the fresh air that will always be a part of my constitution. Thank you for my class. I love you all dearly and can, and never will forget what we had. Thank you for the second, third, fourth, fifth through tenth mothers who cared for me in spite of my lowest lows here. Thank you for the LC, where I learned I needed wings, how to make those wings, and eventually how to fly those wings. Thank you for polishing the rough edges of mine because I know there were many. Thank you for giving me brotherhood.”
