Eaglebrook at 3,165 Feet - Mountain Day 2016

In Eaglebrook terms, hiking to the top of Mt. Monadnock in Jaffrey, New Hampshire is like walking from the gym to Kravis House 16 times, or like walking up the Kravis stairs 30 times. The summit of Mt. Monadnock is 3,165 feet up, four times the vertical distance from the main part of campus to the Rock, and three times that length. The entire Eaglebrook School community made this trek on Monday, October 3 for Mountain Day, an annual tradition to get students outside and to enjoy all that fall in New England has to offer.

The day did not disappoint. Although there was a threat of rain initially, precipitation held off and temperatures on Mt. Monadnock were surprisingly mild given the time of year. Sixth Formers hike up a different trail than the rest of the school, arriving earlier and spending more time at the summit. Everyone brought a bag lunch to enjoy, along with a spectacular view, up on the top of the mountain.

See photos from Mountain Day here, and watch a video of the day here. Karsten ’17 took some footage with a drone at the summit, and that footage can be seen here.

Mountain Day is one of the cornerstones of fall at Eaglebrook. We hike, we talk, we enjoy a day outside and off campus. Most importantly, we continuing building our community. To learn more about the Eaglebrook Outdoor Program, visit www.eaglebrook.org/outdoorprogram.
