Why would you send a sixth-grade boy to boarding school? Shouldn't a ninth-grade student start high school? What is a junior boarding school? Make an appointment to visit us today and learn why Eaglebrook, a boarding and day school for boys in middle school, might be the right place for your son.
Eaglebrook School was founded in 1922 by Howard Gibbs as a private boarding and day school for boys in middle school. Learn about our school in Deerfield, Massachusetts then and now, and read about the Core Skills we think every boy should know.
At Eaglebrook, we recognize that all students learn in different ways, vary in their innate abilities, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Classes at Eaglebrook are organized to meet the needs of each boy.
Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. Activities outside of the academic classroom are important to the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of boys in middle school. At Eaglebrook, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Delivering on our mission is only possible through the incredible generosity of alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends.”
By Matt McKelvey, Eaglebrook Sustainability Coordinator
The Eaglebrook Sustainability Committee worked hard throughout the fall term to develop sustainable initiatives and practices around campus. Near the end of the fall term, the Committee developed a "Dorm Liaison" program in which students were selected as representatives for each dorm on campus. Two Liaisons per dorm were selected to report, at meetings and through email, on how their respective dorms are performing with regards to sustainability. Through coordination with their Housemasters, the liaisons are expected to encourage sustainable practices, check the status of the Hydration Stations, and suggest and lead new initiatives. Halsted House Liaison Hunter McGuinness ’16 expects that this program will help to improve the sustainability program around campus.
"I believe that the sustainability liaison program is a great way to have the sustainability committee updated with dorm initiatives and issues that can be fixed to make each dorm more sustainable. I believe that if each sustainability liaison...gives good feedback about all the ways that dorms can become more energy efficient...then we will have a more energy efficient school," he explained.
Our hope is that a heightened awareness in the dorm will enhance the focus on sustainability around campus. Hunter and the other liaisons will continue to provide a positive sustainability experience for their peers in and out of the dorm. The Committee is now busy at work preparing a packed agenda to tackle during the winter term in Sustainability." Learn more about Sustainability at Eaglebrook at www.eaglebrook.org/sustainability.
