In their second game of the New Year, the Eagles took on cross-town rival Deerfield Academy. Despite the enthusiasm for a chance to come out strong against the opposing team, Eaglebrook came out very flat, quickly falling behind in the opening minutes. The Brookies were kept alive with hard work on the boards by Hwi Jae Shin, and a few driving baskets by Kevin Fleishman. The second quarter started off the same way, with Deerfield continuing to shoot the ball well and Eaglebrook struggling to put points on the board. Down by 19 points, the Eagles went to a half court trap in an effort to try and swing the momentum. The gamble paid off with a number of turnovers and easy fast break opportunities. The half ended with Eaglebrook on an 18-5 run, having closed the gap to 6 points. Eaglebrook kept up the pressure in the third quarter, despite some sloppy play on the offensive end, and was able to tie the score and the end of the third quarter. The Brookies took their first leadoff the game on their first possession of the 4th quarter, and quickly forged a 10-point lead. Deerfield managed to claw their way back, and with 2:51 left in the game, cut the lead to two points. Following a timeout, Eaglebrook settled down and reestablished themselves on the defensive end of the floor. The pressure defense forced DA into a number of poor shots, and John Lee continued to dominate the boards. The combination of John Lee and Chris Hohlstein finished things off on the offensive end, allowing Eaglebrook to close out the game on a 13-2 run, for a hard fought victory.
