EBS Talks: A Night of Student Speeches and Performances

EBSTalks is a platform for Eaglebrook students to share their ideas and experiences through speeches. The 2022-2023 EBSTalks event was held after dinner on May 17. Throughout the night, the stage was host to impassioned student speakers who tackled a wide range of topics. They explored themes such as social justice, environmental sustainability, mental and physical health, and the power of empathy. Their words were an inspiration, urging the audience to reflect, question, and strive for positive change in the world. 

The night wasn’t just about speeches, some students also took the opportunity of EBSTalks to showcase their musical abilities on the piano. Students like Matthew Z. ’24 and Lewin K. ’25 used their time to deliver soulful performances for the audience. Watch the full night’s worth of talks and performances here. As the evening progressed, the anticipation heightened for the much-anticipated performance by Contraband, Eaglebrook’s in-house rock band. When they took the stage, the energy in the room skyrocketed. The band unleashed a wave of infectious enthusiasm as they played Old Time Rock and Roll. Their captivating performance had everyone dancing and cheering throughout the Bartlett Assembly Area. Watch that here.

Jim Fay, Eaglebrook’s Dean of Students and the faculty sponsor of the event said: “The 2023 edition of EBSTalks saw a record-setting 13 performances including 3 musical acts and a broad swath of topics. The combined efforts of our student presenters, tech team, faculty coaches and facilitators, and the support of our professional recording team enabled EBSTalks to deliver the most comprehensive set of Talks to date. Our students continue to raise the bar, and we are excitedly planning for the 2024 edition next May.”

Eaglebrook is grateful to everyone who contributed to the success of EBSTalks, from the performers to the behind-the-scenes crew, the audience, and the countless supporters who made the event possible. Together, we celebrated the power of music, the spoken word, and the indomitable spirit of our students.
