The 2022 Lunar New Year Celebration at Eaglebrook School was one that will be remembered for a long time. The evening began with a special performance. Michael Stroud, a magician based in California, performed a Bian Lian dance. Bian Lian is an ancient face-changing performance, with roots in Chinese Sichuan opera. Watch the performance and Michael’s magic. See photos here.
After the performance, the community walked up to the dining hall, where a beautifully decorated room awaited to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Tiger. Flowers and lanterns were everywhere, and the tables were decorated with fruit, more flowers, and favors, including red envelopes for each person filled with chocolate coins for good luck. Once the meal itself was finished, the Imperial Dance Team from nearby Worcester, Massachusetts performed an astonishing Lion Dance. Watch the dance and see photos from the evening here.
An amazing show of magic and grace, a wonderful dinner followed by a powerful Lion Dance were not the end of the evening, however. After leaving Gibbs Dining Hall, students and faculty lined up on Infirmary Field to watch a breathtaking fireworks show. Watch a video of the fireworks and see photos here. It was a night to remember for the whole community.
