After Thursday's bruising game, the Eagles traveled up to Cardigan Mountain School on a beautiful afternoon with very few players available in key positions. Having prepped 4 students to play quarterback, we had only one player left to suit up for the game. Unfortunately, he was unable to play after the first series of downs and the Eagles were left to improvise. The coaches salute those individuals who attempted to step in, but generally speaking, game time is not the ideal moment to try a position for the first time in one's life....especially a position such as quarterback. Our inability to run any kind of offense was frustrating to all involved and more or less was the only notable "story of the day". The coaches are baffled by the rash of injuries we've experienced this season; we've never seen anything quite like it. We will continue to train people to play the "ball handling" positions and will focus more on developing our defense and special teams.
Many thanks to all the parents who made the trip up north to support the team. It meant a lot to all of us at the school and I know the players would have liked nothing more than to play the game at full strength. Even half strength would have been nice. But this is part of the game and the boys are doing a great job learning from the challenge.
