Varsity Tennis at NE Junior Prep School Tournament
Arriving promptly at the Admissions lot at 6:30am, the top four members of the Eaglebrook Varsity Tennis ladder drove 2 hours west for the annual Fessenden singles tournament. Historically Eaglebrook has fared quite well at the tournament, so excitement levels were high, mixed in with a touch of nervousness. While the other seven teams (which came from within 30 minutes) had long warmups, the Brookies had to start cold. Fortunately, we won three of our four initial matchups. As the sun rose over the courts and the temperatures warmed up, the Brookies battled on, but only won one more match in the main draw. Even though we were out of the main draw, we still had hope. Playing his best tennis of the year, Arthur Watcharananan worked his way through the Consolation Draw, and ultimately won the bracket! It was a testament to how aggressive play (coupled with shrugging off/flushing unforced errors) is a winning strategy. When the points were tallied, Eaglebrook came in third place out of the eight teams. Well done Eagles! Our final match is next Saturday at arch-rival Cardigan.
