Juniors Lacrosse v. Cardigan Mountain School
Eaglebrook took the field yesterday against visiting Cardigan Mountain School on an overcast day. The first quarter was a tight battle with both sides battling for ground balls. Neither side was able to get into a groove offensively and the quarter ended 0-0. Early in the second, Eaglebrook was hit with two penalties back to back for slashing that set Cardigan up two players. Eaglebrook's man down unit held off the attack long enough for the sides to return back to even. Unfortunately, late in the second quarter, one of Cardigan's midfielders found his way past one of our defenders and no slide was avaiable so shut him down before he buried one in the net setting Cardigan up 1-0 heading into the half.
Eaglebrook entered the second half hungry for a goal of their own, but couldn't manage to get anything going offensively. Cardigan was in their attacking end when Austin Silpa-Archa caused a turnover and scooped up a ground ball. He carried the ball the length of the field, beating a number of Cardigan defenders along the way before finding the back of the net and evening the score. The third ended in a 1-1 tie. In the fourth, Eaglebrook's offense started to click and we had a few shots on the doorstep but couldn't put them on the net. Eaglebrook's defense was able to hold Cardigan scoreless with a few key saves from Derrick Zhang in the net. With two minutes left in the game, Owen Taupier battled for a ground ball in the offensive end and found Billy Dijoux in front of the net. Dijoux received Taupier's pass and put it past the keeper to send the home team up 2-1. The team held off Cardigan's last offensive push before the end of the game to end with a 2-1 victory. It was a strong team effort and a big win for all of the boys.
