Thirds Basketball v. Cardigan Mountain School
Thirds Basketball dropped a tough game on the road against Cardigan Mountain on Saturday in a 21-15 final to fall to a 3-4 mark for the season. It was a hard pill to swallow for the Eagles against their archrivals from the north because they had beaten the same team in the season opener at home in a valiant come-from-behind victory back in early January.
Defensively for the Eagles, the half-court press worked wonders as it forced the home hosts to turn the ball over on many possessions, highlighted by three steals apiece from Jeff Moon and Nate Roachford.
However, the offense was unable to convert those turnovers into points on the other end of the court as it misfired from the field to keep the game close. The Eagles did take the ball strong to the hoop as much as possible against a slower Cardigan squad that piled on fouls in a hurry and earned numerous opportunities at the free throw line. But a dismal 1-for-8 shooting from the charity stripe, coupled with several untimely turnovers in the second half ultimately cost the visitors the victory.
Next up for the Eagles will be the Four Rivers School on Thursday (2/14) on the road with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
